Director @ Texture AI
Dr James Carney is Wellcome Trust Fellow in the Medical Humanities, based at Brunel University London. Previous to this, he has held appointments in the Department of Psychology at Lancaster University and in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford (where he was also a Fellow of Linacre College). His current research project focuses on how machine learning can be used to identify therapeutic interventions for mental illnesses like depression and anxiety; however, he also researches the wider psychology of culture. This includes developing reliable methods for predicting how text and image will impact on cognition, and how personality can be inferred from the use of text and image. He is a director of Texture AI, a start-up that leverages new developments in cognitive science and machine learning for advertising and brand building.
